...I love the mids, dimensionality and fine detail of the SEDs but they are clearly not as extended in the highs or lows as the EHs. How do the Genalex compare to either of these?
Thanks! Steve

waxxy, with the eh 6ca7 costing $75 a quad, is the extra cost of the kt77 worth it?
....in my setup. That said the Genelec kt-77 is also a fine tube. Like I said in an earlier post, they are more 'different' than better or worse. If price was a deciding factor, I would gladly buy and use the EH 6CA7 and not worry about any other tubes.

The Genelex KT77s are a fine sounding tube and for audio applications, they are far better any EL34 and that includes my vintage Xf1s and Xf2s.. They also best the SEDs and the EHs...I assume you meant the EH EL34 and not the 6CA7.
The KT77 is far more acclimated to audio use than the EL34 IMHO. They definitely have more extension at both ends than the EL34s do.. If you have adjustable bias on your amps, another tube that will easily trick you fancy is the 6P3Se..Thats a 6L6 based tube but it works in EL34 applications extremely well and most everyone is pleased that hears it.

...no offence but did you read the title of his post?
I've tried the EH 6CA7 and the Genelex KT77 in single-ended configuration, and though they are different sounding, I would not say that one is heads and shoulders above the other. Both great tubes depending on the "sound" one is trying to achieve. I've tried several other tubes in the EL-34 family, and those two are top notch new production tubes.
I'm now using the 6P3Se (thank you Jim McShane) and so far, these are my favorite of the lot. Great extension, not fat or slow, but very smooth with no nasties. I'm grateful to Mr. Samra for bringing these tubes to my attention, because I never would have known about or chosen them without his recommendations on this board. Great tube!

What brand is the 6P3Se?
The brand is not something that I'm familiar with, I can't read Russian, so here's a pic...

I have tried all the above tubes and the best for my VTL ST-85 is the Treasure 6CA7. This tube sounds more like real music than any other tube I have tried in my various amps

I've actually got a fresh unused set of the Treasures sitting here waiting...just not ready to roll 'em in yet. I like to listen to a set of tubes for 6 months to a year and really get used to them before I roll in another set. It just makes any change that much more apparent.
The other thing that's thrown a wrench in my tubular enjoyment is the 47 Labs Shigaraki amp that I bought last year. It's so damn good I don't even think about tubes or anything else amp-wise...I'm just having too much fun with this little solid-state bugger. I'll always have a tube amp around, but I'm a little rattled how good a 'chip amp' can be.

I remember reading it now that you mention it but it was a while back I think..My lower lumbar is affecting my memory and concentration. I'm getting better tho.Old age has its drawbacks. My daughter constantly reminds me of things I keep forgetting.

I'm with you, Mike. Becoming a geezer stinks. The alternative is far worse.

I hear you Eli. I have 13 years more to work tho and I probably won't retire at 65 either.

Ah yes the early 50's, a glimpse of things to come!
Age 50 to 55 or so.
Actually, some "research" shows that as people get older than 60 or so they become happier.
