I have the metal based with the 1578 stamp.It has large dull black T shaped plates like a Sylvania high in the bottle---except these have 5 small holes on each side of the plates. I have not tried the other types but I believe connoisseurs consider these to be the best. The build quality of this tube is exceptional. The sound is superb. For now, they have supplanted the 1952 Sylvania's as drivers in my amp.
