Hi
Thanks for all the replies .
The amp was taken couple of times to local shops and the guys could not find anything wrong with it . They commented thou on how well was build and quality of components used - never heard "cheap" or "poor design " from them . I know that SED EL34 are good tubes - in my system they had a lot of bass - almost too much for some tastes , but midrange and HF had a little brightness . It might be contribution of JM Labs "hot" tweeters not sure thou .
What I was trying to get help with is maybe a recommendation for tubes , that would control bass a little better and give me cleaner and more extended HF - SED being very good as they are didn't work well in my set up.
So far I was thinking about getting set of JJ KT77 . I wish I had the $$ to get few different sets and try them out , but that's not the case lol - maybe that's why I bought Chinese lol - love audio and music , but putting my kids through university is a priority .
Thanks again
Derek

I think you would like the RFT "Seimens" dimple top EL34. They had a very "airy" nature to them in my Curcio ST70. Had a smooth top without any harshness to it. I didnt like Winged C or EH, the top end was too harsh (similar to what you are experiencing). I liked these RFT, and someone else mentioned the Groove Tubes EL34M. I have a quad of the Groove Tubes EL34M and like them a lot. They have the best top end of any of the EL34 I have listened too. There are bright and detailed, but very musical and pleasant.
The suggestion for the coupling capacitor upgrade is right on, as well. Try some paper-in-oil. What kind of driver tubes does your amp use? Definitely do some rolling with those as well. Good luck! (Sorry this thread turned into what it has.)
If you're thinking about getting KT77s, please don't get the JJs. They have well-known construction/reliability issues (search the archives here) which I can confirm from personal experience. On the other hand, the reissue Genelex/Gold Lion KT-77s are fantastic and replaced original Mullard xf1 EL34s in my system.
Thanks Dave...
Yes...I've seen the post about JJs ..and I think Genelex/Gold Lion KT-77s are the ticket..I will take Sondek's advice too and roll the Siemens ECC81s...but the Russians stay in lol . Now I have to look for good ECC81/12AT7 . Still would like to hear what caps you guys would recommend as an upgrade .
Thanks for all the advice.
Derek
Not surprised that the guys you showed the 34AB to were impressed by it. I own a Ming Da phono stage and was floored by the cleanly executed, intricate point-to-point wiring, parts quality, fit and finish and sound. Hardly a cheap piece of junk. For further proof, check out the Cayin and Vincent lines, among others. Just take off the bottom plate of any of these amps and examine the quality of the parts and workmanship. Only a fool would call them "cheap".
