The white switches on the little black boxes are to put in and out the caps - there are four of these.There are also two DIP switches between these - white toggles on red boxes - which effect gain, reducing it by 7db when engaged. But ONLY on the line stage...not phono.

Thanks so much for the information. Both set of switches are in the "off" position so the pre-amp is running wide open. I guess the route I'll have to follow for more gain without backgroung noise is to look for phono step-up. I am currently using an Ortophon 2000 cartridge with a gain of 0.2mV . It is mounted on a Zeta tonearm and my turntable is an Oracle Delphi Mk.4.

You might want to post the question on vinyl in regards to the MC cart and an appropriate phono.
