Thanks so much for the information. Both set of switches are in the "off" position so the pre-amp is running wide open. I guess the route I'll have to follow for more gain without backgroung noise is to look for phono step-up. I am currently using an Ortophon 2000 cartridge with a gain of 0.2mV . It is mounted on a Zeta tonearm and my turntable is an Oracle Delphi Mk.4.

but ran across this on the J Curl phono:"For those into playing with impedance loading, the gold phono board is factory preset at 47k ohms, but that can easily be changed by inserting the desired value resistor into gold-plated pins on each board. "
