smooth, dimensional, great midrange, very defined highs and a diminished bass. That just did not cut if for me. I would rather have a more balanced cap with less wow factor. Or, better yet, a balanced cap with just as much wow factor. There are just many more caps that I would prefer to the silver/oil, though I respect that others will think that it's the cat's meow.

I coud not agree more! I find the Mundorf SIO to be tilted towards the high end, lacking in texture in the low frequency with a way back soundstage resulting in a un-natural and un-involving musical sound. i recently replaced the SIO output coupling caps in my amps with russian ky40-9 by-passed with .01 ufd, teflon and it sounded god awful at the beginning but after about 1 or 2 weeks wow great sound. I am glad I did not give in to my initial response to take them out, It's hard to believe the sound could change so drastic and it seem to happen all of a sudden one night there I was listening and saying wow WTF happened.
When you say the bass was diminished, do you mean even in a circuit where the value of the capacitor (1uF, in this case) should otherwise have been sufficient to pass low frequency information down to a cut-off of 2 Hz or less? (That's just my rule of thumb; I like to shoot for a -3db point of 2 Hz, in order to have flat response down to 20 Hz.) So, with a 1uF coupling capacitor, the impedance of the following circuit should be no lower than ~100K ohms. That's the approximate lower limit of the parallel sum of all the impedances seen by the output of the capacitor, to achieve a -3db point of 2 Hz.If this was not the case, then simply increasing the value of the coupling capacitor, using exactly the same brand and type would be expected to improve the perceived bass response.
I ask this question, because I read statements like yours quite often (this or that capacitor has
"no bass") with no further information about the circuit topology. Thanks.EDIT; I realized after writing this that you may well have been referring to an apparent lack in the midbass frequencies and not extreme low bass response that would be affected most by capacitor value and input impedance of the following stage, but it would be interesting to read your response, nevertheless.

Please share with us what you DO believe are truly balanced, great caps that capture the essence of music, top to bottom. That's what I want, everybody's opinion, and why they feel that way.
I've heard similar complaints about the Mundorf silver/oil, that it is just a tad bass shy. Same for the silver/gold/oil, too. That's a key thing to share, no doubt.
And if other people have a different experience, I'd want to hear their point of view and what they think.
I'm sure I'm not the only one who would want to know these things.
So please, let your voice be heard!
Thank you.
