Hi, Dave:
My reaction: "OMG!"
How costly is or was that gorgeous thing?
You know, I have to admit my ignorance about this machine. WOW!

I'm not sure what they sold for new but the last couple used ones that came up on Fleabay got $1800-$2200...

Hi, Dave:
I saw that the last one sold for just under $900 on eBay.
Frankly, nice as they undoubtedly are, I think that it would be just a bit more comforting to know if there are spare parts available and so on.
At least with a used Nagra, though service is costly, it is available.
I do not record to analog any longer because frankly, I am quite satisfied with what I presently use and seem to achieve very nice results.
It is one thing to have superb gear, but another to have superb gear and know where to place your microphones in a given environment.
Sometimes I think of this pursuit as a kind of "black art".
Thanks

I have one of these Lyrec PTR-1..........Lyrec Frida. (original name)
The original price tag back then was hefti..........> Dkr. 76.000,-
~ $15.000,-
The Factory is situated in DK and are stille doing service on these machines and have a full load of spare parts.
The very skilled person who used to service all Lyrec RTR around the world in studios are just retired one year ago. So maybe the factory slowly will let this analog thing die out...............I doubt it though, since they were known for making the best RTR machines ever.
On the used market they are hugely undervalued. I gues a lot of people don't understand how to make these machines perform because most of the qualities, options, calibrations and controls are unvisible and hidden "under the bonnet", which means that you lift up a cover on the front and the world og adventure reveals. A manual is needed to benefit from this.
Inside it is the most beautiful modular build quality with the best component choise of the time being.
Do not miss the other Lyrec RTR machines and be aware that the Lyrec Fred is an only play model and the TR 53/55 is the best ever made IMHO

Just correcting some incorrect information on the status of Lyrec. The company went bankrupt a few months ago. There was an auction for the spare parts in February. Hope some spares become available on ebay.
RIch
This info makes me kind of sad..............
Do you have any more info?
"dolph"
My friend contacted them after the auction and tried to find out where the spare parts went. He ran into a dead end. He would have placed a bid if he had known about the auction beforehand. There was some info on the web about the auction in January. That is about all I know.
No worry, I happens to know that a rather hefty bulk of the remains of Lyrec were bought in March this year by a small company in Copenhagen (who specializes in vintage equipment, tube amps and older Luxman highend).
They will continue some sort of service and certainly not let the story end here.
Actually, one of the employees worked as an engineer with Lyrec for 35 years!!
And as far as I know most of the documentation from 1980 up till now is also in their hands.
I would very much like to know the name and contact information on the company that acquired the parts. I have four Fridas and inevitably will need parts at some point. Thanks, Harold
Hello,
Thank you for your loyalty to Lyrec products.
We bought a large number of spare parts and documentation.
For years we have been rebuilding and servicing a number of highend classic brands of equipment, e.g. Bruel & Kjaer, NTP, Luxman etc. - and now Lyrec.
One of our employees worked as an engineer with Lyrec for 35 years and we all have 35-50 years of experience on analog equipment.
Our aim is to keep the legacy of Lyrec alive.
