The smaller Klipsch speakers (4" or 5" drivers) listened to in nearfield (speakers as far away from wall boundaries as possible) might be nice. The horns will help control stray reflections in a very small room. Some models are active (needing no amplification). You don't have to look at the copper drivers if you don't want to, just keep the grilles on.Genelec G1, G2, or G3 active speakers might be a nice step up from the Klipsch.
EQ might help, but in a room as small as yours I'd forget about trying to get much good smooth bass under 100 hz. I'd simply let the bass from the tiny nearfield speakers roll off naturally and be done with it.
