For me, compared to my old Yammie and Kenwood 40w receivers that was a huge "super" powerd amp. The ARs sounded better to me by far with 75-100w. The Lux gear sounded great with it. I wish I had those speakers now, be fun to listen to.

I did evevtually get the Phase Linnear stuff from the ex-BF but it got stolen before I could use it. Poetic justice probably.

I still have the Yamaha, still in harness with vintage speakers in a friend's system.

I wondered about the Phase Linear amps. I think HP liked them. Not sure about Holt. Someone must have been negative on them, because I passed on them for some reason. Long time ago.

  ...were actaully pretty fair amps. These Bob Carver designs were the first really high powered amps I ever encountered.
  
  Some models sounded not so good, some models sounded very good, but I heard via the grapevine they could be unreliable. Don't know first hand about that, but the BF never had trouble. I owned them briefly but they were stolen before I could spend any time with them.
