I been used the Cyrus Brenneman Cavalier since I got the Titan almost 20 years ago, just wonder you guys have any suggest for SET amp that sound better than the Cavalier.
Follow Ups:
You probably know the good doctor loved to pair the Titan with Cyrus Brenneman, and it's for a good reason. Sure, you can try other SET's for different presentation, such as more midrange-centric sound, but you will lose the treble extension and bass control of Cyrus.
To scratch the itch, maybe try different tubes such as British KT77.
I agree with Jon, for a quick and easy way to change the sonics of your amp
Just up grade your amps coupling caps. The Miflex caps are probably your best bang for the buck.
Are you referring to cap similar to these listed
Most people referring to Miflex copper foil caps are referring to KPCU series, but one in your link probably sounds great, too.
Just beware, Miflex caps tend to be physically much larger, so make sure you measure how much room you have in your amp before ordering. The other favorite Jupiter Copper Foil in wax caps are smaller..
I have the good fortune to have Dr. Edger built and delivered the Titan ll with sub to my home. Also have the fortune inherited batch of Tung-Sol 6550 1960-70's tube from work. It was a power supply for one of shock and vibration tester. The power supply was size 6 ft tall cabinets, only regards I didn't saved any GE6550 of the same vintage. Most ofTung-Sol 6550 still tested very strong and they're 3-holes grey plate. Just got too much time on my hands since retirement and just want know if low power 3-5 watts SET will sound and better than my current setup.
Find someone in your area that has SET amps and set up an audition with him. If you were in my Area, I'd bring over my 45 Monoblocks and set them up in your system. You're never going to know unless you try them in your house.
If are powering your Speakers, both Bass and Midrange and above with one amplifier, you might think about Bi-Amping. That is what I do. I have 45 amps with 1.5 watts per channel on my Horns, and Class 'D' Amps on the Bass Bins (500 watts per channel)... So I get the sweet sounds of a SET amp, but have all the power that I need....
