With Proper Triodes and decent iron, you can get all that sweet music with grunt.
I've had one of my Wurlitzer PP45 Jukebox amps on my bench for almost a month cause the last time I tried it , it was playing low volumes. So this weekend I finally got around to finding the problem, a Bad Type 30 input tube or dirty socket. Anyway its working fine now.
I don't usually listen to my Triode PP amps I've got 2 PP systems. A stereo PP amp and the Wurlitzer mono-blocks. .... I love the Wurlitzers because of their sheer power. They give great weight to the music, and still have that DHT clarity !
I know you guys have seen this before from me ....But everytime I break these out after not hearing them for a while ...... I'm always amazed by the sound. ... for your reference these are 1930's era amps.

First of all, this forum IS all about SETs. Your post is off-topic and likely to create a contentious thread. Perhaps that's what you were hoping for. Second, no push-pull amplifier equals the sonic qualities of a good SET, with the possible exception of push-pull Class A. Such amps may or may not be able to recreate the nuance of a SET, and one would probably need to audition hundreds of amps in double-blind testing to reach a valid conclusion. You haven't done that, and simply posting photos of antique amplifiers where they're not appropriate won't make your case. I can appreciate the beauty of those old amps and the joy of using them. Nevertheless, I'd much rather own and listen to high-quality SETs with a 211 or 845 than 80-year-old amplifiers designed before Hi-Fi was even a concept.

Get a life will ya TK. Drummer those are a couple of really nice looking amps. I am envious. Some people around here seem to forget that "sound" is always subjective. This SET thing is not a cult or a religion the last time I checked. I prefer SETs myself but I have heard some really good PP triode amps so I guess that makes me a heretic......or something. Keep up the good work Drummer. Hopefully sometime I can get across the river with my new amplifier that is in the works.

Hammond organ made a PPP 2A3 amplifier used in tone cabinets. They used to be fairly common a few years ago. It will likely take a year to find two amplifiers on ebay now.
Nothing like running out of horsepower, and it takes more than is obvious. But this is the SET forum, so SET is best. Period, no discussion allowed....LMAO

No question DHSETs do 'you are there' or 'we are here' better than P-P on Jazz, Chamber, and small forces but their slight edge vanishes when Mahler or Beethoven or Stravinsky show up.
With these 97dB speakers the 45s don't really clip but rather congest and don't reveal the composers score the way the 60 Watters do.
When it's going to be a session with Hank Mobley or Max Roach it takes just a minute to switch cables.
I must have both SET and P-P to get all the music. I also must dust!
I've got a 1 kilowatt SS amp that will bust the windows but it ain't music. LOL.
Well, kilowatt or not, most SS amps just don't make music!
SET does well on chamber music, but I have noticed a similar tendency as you mentioned on the large orchestral works with the smaller dht's. However my 300B (7-8 watts) seems to have enough ommph to pull it off. I might have to try a pp dht one of these days to hear the difference.

That's exactly right. The problem being described here is solely due to power level. Comparing a 45 SET to push-pull pentodes in this context is meaningless.

For a while, I "sold out" to pp triode-connected KT88's. However, now I'm back to SE 300b's on the main system, with Tonian TLM1 Mk 2's, and have the Mcshaned triode wired Citation II on the number 2 system of Lowther Acoustas with Visaton tweeters. SE 300b's can be quite dynamic, transparent and crisp, though still warm, in the right set up. Have SE 45's in the number 3.... Stereo 70...4... T16 OTL...5. The first 3 are all top notch. The T16 is in 5 because I don't want to leave it on overnight in the bedroom. Those Wurlitzer amps sure look cool, and I bet they sound great. It would be fun to restore a pair if there was the time and money.David

You haven't done that..." - and neither have YOU heard the amplifier the OP is referring to that's got your skirt twisted, have you? So who has the stronger position?

P.S. In my experience nothing beats SE amps for nuance and naturalness!
The Audio Note (UK) P-2 PP power amp. It's reasonably priced and sounds really good with KT66.

I have my eye on a pair of local pp 2a3 seeburg amps.. All triodes. Maybe next years project.
High sensitivity, wide dynamic range, low distortion, and smooth frequency response. Pwk

Even a DHT one. Just takes a couple 833s, a couple Monolith OPTs and the willingness to work with 2kV.
..... Man just the thought of 2KV, makes my knees weak !
