I remember graduating from high school (Kailua) there in 1974.

Throughout elementary school, I hardly went to Kailua, even though relatives lived there. My family would drive past Makapu'u and Sea Life Park. We'd go by Waimanalo and Lanikai, and go to Windward Mall.
I didn't really spend lots of time at Kailua Beach, until 7th grade, when I took summer Marine Biology at Punahou. Our class took a couple of small buses, went through the Pali. At Kailua Beach, we got to snorkel out to Flat island. I was so stoked to see a sea turtle! It turned out that one of my lab partners, Kyle, lived in Kailua. When we were at Kailua Beach, Kyle moaned, "Aw, do I have to go all the way back to Punahou? Why can't I just go home from here?"
When's the last time you've been back to Kailua?

Last time we were in Kailua was 2018. My wife and I lived there for 2 years after I retired in 2016, taking care of my dad who passed away at the end of 2017. After organizing a memorial service and scattering ashes about a mile out to sea from the Royal Hawaiian Hotel in Waikiki (where dad scattered mom's ashes in 2010), we then had to clean out and sell the house which was a 5 minute walk from Kailua beach park (boat ramp area).
Most every morning one or both of us would walk through the beach park, up the hill to the Lanikai monument, and sometimes around the Lanikai loop. Of course, the weather was usually perfect unless it was raining.
Rather than post yet another photo of Lanikai beach and the Mokuluas, I will instead include this picture taken from near the Lanikai monument looking the other way, back toward the Pali highway.
Because audiophiles come from all over the world, our differences are what make us strong and interesting. But then you come across others, who've lived in or been to the same places as you.

I've always had relatives living throughout Oahu. However, when I went over, I stayed with my grandparents, who lived near UH-Manoa. My scanner sucks. This was from around 2000, at Makapu'u.

We kept going, and ended up at Bellows. That's my head in the water, which, on this day, had absolutely no surf. That fine sand sticks to you, as if it were superglued.

You're right; everyone at Lanikai takes photos of the sea. So thank you for bucking that, and taking one, looking at the mountains.I have first cousins, who live in Kaneohe and Kailua. One from Kaneohe has to commute to Tripler Hospital. His wife takes their daughter to Punahou. However, my cousin in Kailua telecommutes full-time. She goes to the Seattle HQ twice a year.
