Then what? ROTFLAO? ...some experiment you are observing...

I am not interested in berserk but his picking up an opposing argument by making his position progressively more and more absurd. Tubeguy has clearly recognised why his post was criticised but rather than go with it he seems compelled to keep digging and hitting out. Why? His interest in the subject seems to be real but it is crushed by something to do with his being an audiophile.
Andy,
I'll give you credit for not being like the weiner from Tampa who gets his jollies by attempting to provoke others. You're 100% correct my interest in this subject is real. But as to your assinine comment that it is crushed by something to do with my being an audiophile, I honestly don't know where or how you came to such a stupid conclusion.
As I stated in another reply to you I realize "if" one applied the same force used to accelerate the loudspeaker in the opposite direction then it would slow down at the same rate it accelerated but, apparently unlike yourself I also understand that other factors like perhaps gravity, friction, the size & strength of the driver's motors, or even always magnetic self-damping are preventing that from actually happening!
I originally stated quite clearly "In theory applying the same force to accelerate a loudspeaker's driver in the opposite direction will slow down it at the same rate it's accelerated but, that only occurs with a theoretically perfect loudspeaker's driver. However a perfect driver doesn't exist." Why? because like I stated above other factors like gravity, friction, the size & strength of the driver's motors, or even always magnetic self-damping are preventing that from actually happening! But you took exception to that statement and kept insisting that only the one part Newton's law you spoke of should be considered, thus I was wrong in my statement and the speaker would stop as quickly as it started. You really need to grow up Andy. I honestly believe you are intelligent enough to realize these other factors needed to be considered, but you just wanted to argue about one specific point so you could appear to be correct, when in all reality in the context of what I was saying, you were wrong!

Because you do not go about gathering information in a normal manner. You tend to state a belief which has come from who knows where and then try to gather anything to support it. Conflicting information either gets ignored or upsets you. Replacing rational thought with belief is very much what distinguishes audiophiles.
Andy states: Because you do not go about gathering information in a normal manner. You tend to state a belief which has come from who knows where and then try to gather anything to support it.
TG1954: I gathered information from reading articles on the internet and asking questions of a speaker designer/manufacturer. As if you're an authority on driver design & manufacturing and I should believe you before them!

Andy states: Conflicting information either gets ignored or upsets you.
TG1954: Conflicting information from someone like yourself who seems to believe he has the answer over everyone else, as opposed to information I received from two different speaker designer & manufacturers definitely gets ignored! The only thing that "upsets" me --- although that's your word usage not mine because the opinion of some faceless moniker on an internet forum hardly upsets me is that you always want to be correct, even when you aren't and then you accuse me of doing the very thing you do yourself!
Again I'll challenge you Andy to debate your assinine opinion that Newtons law which as you stated it says: If you apply the same force you used to accelerate the loudspeaker in the opposite direction then it will slow down at the same rate it accelerated. is the prevailing factor that needs to be considered in a driver's design, with Brian Cheney! But of course you and I both know you won't do that! Talk about ignoring what's been said, ha!
I've told you over & over there are other factors which are preventing a driver from stopping as quickly as it starts! Consider the fact that almost all drivers flex and their suspensions store energy --- which somehow must be released --- are at least two reasons I can think of why this problem might occur. You've also conveniently ignored everything I've said about that as well, talk about a hypocrite!

Andy states: Replacing rational thought with belief is very much what distinguishes audiophiles.
TG1954: And I suppose you believe your responses have been rational when everyone but you realises that a lot more factors are play than the one part of Newton's law you keep bringing up. The reality is this drivers --- for the most part --- don't stop as quickly as they start, period! So Andy if replacing rational thought with belief is very much what distinguishes audiophiles, then you're the King Of Audiophiles because your behavior on this topic is anything but rational.

Indeed. You have probably noted that I am not much for engaging in technical arguments with audiophiles, as I find that to be mostly a complete waste of time (and largely outside of my area of expertise, as I am not a psychiatrist). At the end of the day, no technical argument can sway a belief, no more than presenting dinosaur bones to creationists will have an effect. At least they are clear on where I stand, that what they are "hearing" is largely psychological (99%?), or various maladies (something akin to Photosensitive epilepsy in many cases) to be more accurate. I expect the same here. Overwhelming technical explanations will be provided as to the absurdity of a soft diaphragm, decorrelated multi driver, wildly varying directivity, resonating .75 cu ft box in a room with "$1000 wires" being confused with live instruments.
About a week or two from now we get a "Why 35 watts of tube NutraSweet is indistinguishable from live instruments" thread (connected to said loudspeaker no less). On and on it goes. Crushed? Hardly. Never, such indomitable spirits...
cheers,
AJ
