I am only relying on my personal experiences. But the basic design of the USB interface was to transmit data accurately with timing at the convenience of the central processor, not a stream of data needing accurate timing, such as music. I don't think anything in other processors would influence this. I know FW was invented by Apple for their own purposes, but it does not have the limitations of USB. This is why I have asked about eSATA interfaces. The new Oppo 93 and 95 have eSATA inputs. What you might use into these inputs, I don't know, but USB would not seem to have much potential future use.
