I'm running (stable) 8.0 and looked at the change logs of later releases to see if there's anything I'm missing. What I find is a deal killer since I take full advantage of what "M" represents and stream >500 movies/videos on Roku players around the manse via the DLNA media plugin:

Going back over 20 years ago I've never used LMS for anything other than audio playback. I also have no problem running a Plex server on the same RPi as LMS with zero problems.

  really don't offer any benefits for me having two applications do the work of one.
  
  Configuring LMS for video simply required pointing it to the folder and checking the box!

Old LMS on old End-of-Life DSM. When will the last domino fall? When will you run out of band-aids?
You have streaming music services but did you know there are services like Netflix, AppleTV+, and others for movies and shows?

  Honda discontinued both the S2000 and ST1300 about the time I started using LMS in 2012. Porsche discontinued Wifey's color pick and in order to get the flat six, you now have to pony up $120k for the GTS.
  
  What to do?
  Really nothing in either case. Continue to enjoy what works exceptionally well (sans "Band-Aids") and not get caught up in continual upgrade noise. :)

  We currently access Netflix, Disney+, Paramount+, Max and Amazon Prime. Video is wifey's domain. :)
