Sound quality, which in many cases is based on subjective opinion, isn't the same as accuracy. An accurate system may present sound quality which is not preferred to a sweetened presentation (at least to some people).
For example, some people prefer the presentation of vinyl to CD or Computer Audio playback even when the master used to cut the album was digital.
As for bit perfect output, it's not just a good place to be -- it's the place to start.

Quality is always a subject for discussions, but not subject for taste !
When you write :
"Sound quality, which in many cases is based on subjective opinion, isn't the same as accuracy...."
-you´re ignoring one of the most important parameters in the very word "quality".
Quality is not a meassure of like/dislike, it is statement of fullfiled standards and references.
kind regards

Of course! And the most important quality is surely freedom from harmonic distortion...
But I take it to a higher level, the system level. And in home audio ultimately the only system quality that matters is how much I enjoy the sound. That's my standard and live music and other audio systems are my references.
In that I'm at odds with many posters who only care about one quality of the gear: cost. And to them the antithesis of "quality" is "cheap".
"Quality" is largely synonymous with "attribute" except for having a known direction for "goodness". I.e. higher quality is always a good thing while a higher attribute may go either way depending upon the desired outcome.
Few other words in the English language are more abused by marketeers to manipulate the fuzzy minded than "quality". That's dominant quality of "quality"....
Good of you to bring it up...
Rick
Go with Pirsig (and Plato) when it comes to quality. :-)

HA! Smiley face is right...
My view of quality is clearly of far higher quality than that drugged-out hippy's!
Yours for uncontrollable quality...
