a bit of the cathode coating flaked off and shorted to the grid for a short bit of time. That would have caused the tube to conduct very hard so you'd have seen a blue glow just on the inside of the glass.
But something happened- either the flake fell away to the bottom of the tube or a link to the cathode of the tube failed due to the current. You can check the latter visually; see the link below.

Thanks Ralph! I have the 6n13pj. if I move the tube to a different socket, the tube glow follows it, so I'll just replace it...-posting a pic..
If you check the links in the bottom you'll see they are blown.
