As far as I'm concerned, the Grammys in recent time has been used to *shape* popular opinion of music artists, not reflect such opinion.....
I mean, has Rush or Led Zeppelin ever won a Grammy?

Yeah, I don't think I ever watched the Grammys because I think it has been abysmal forever. Sure there have been good artists but they usually lose to schlock - and even if the odd won did win they were beating schlock so it was like "why bother?"
While I do enjoy the Oscars - I have never been a big fan of turning ART into a competition. Back in high school, we had kids with their Black Sabbath or AC/DC shirts on and kids with their New Kids on the Block or Michael Jackson Shirts and girls with their Cyndi Lauper/Madonna fishnet gloves etc. Very different kinds of music. Giving one a grammy over the other seemed kind of silly to me.
There was some snob appeal like the rock band played instruments - yeah but to classical musicians - rock instruments are the equivalent of cavemen banging a drum and playing 3 chords on a guitar so it's not exactly The London Symphony in terms of playing ability. So if this is the measure the only music that should win anything is classical. And if we say no - classical is not popular so no one would watch the show (which is the truth) then it's about popularity and most albums sold so I guess we get Kanye West. Argggh!
