... I'd still call them HIP. The clarified polyphony, clean lines, rhythmic lightness are there, but also the signature string astringency that is often so maligned.
But to your point, every school has its extremes.

But my point was that the majority of the CA's recordings sound far more traditional than do those of practically any other HIP group I know of.
BTW, I'm not really a fan of Klemperer in any case. I do like the multi-channel Missa Solemnis offerings, even though I'm not usually a fan of Boy-Wonder Thielemann either.

I can't imagine why people wouldn't like these HIPsters or their artistry.
Looks as if Manze is trying to pull a Harnoncourt maneuver (i.e., get his foot in the door via HIP, and then go on to conduct Vaughan Williams et al in a completely non-HIP manner).
The trouble is that many aspects of HIP musicians' performances are fine, but their elevation of minimal-or-no vibrato to a virtual fetish is a more or less continuous element in their performances. You can't get away from it. I think they're misguided about it, and I'll continue to say so. (And, BTW, that's one aspect about the Collegium Aureum performances that I really did like - their willingness to relax the HIP "party line" with respect to vibrato.)

Ah, Teresa, DUI Lawer.
How I miss them....
