Thanks for that tip, Paul. Since earliest childhood I've always had Cortot's Chopin etudes on LP (which itself was a reissue of the original 78s, of course). A unique document, even if them's fightin' words around here.
Interesting how each generation has at least one interesting new interpretation. In my father's day it was Agustin Anievas, imo. In recent times Nikolai Lugansky did an exciting set. But nothing replaces Cortot, I agree.

Funny - Lugansky is one of my faves, but I thought his Chopin Etudes on the Warner label were one of his rare misfires (too comfortable sounding IMHO). I don't think I have it anymore unfortunately.
I have other things by Lugansky, but his Chopin etudes is my favorite by a large margin. YMMV.
