This is a difficult instrument to reproduce. You must have a good system.
So often is can sound a jangled mess!
Enjoying 12,000 mostly classical CDs via Sennheiser HD800 headphones & M2TECH Vaughan DAC -> HeadRoom BlockHead headphone amplifier fed from a Meridian (Sooloos) server system.
The main 7.1 MC electrostatic speaker system is for A/V at night.
Follow Ups:
I enjoy baroque music a lot thus built my system over the years making sure
the harpsichord sounds good. Lots of recordings are more spectacular than the Caro Mitis but they are recorded too close. The Caro Mitis are perfect.
Yes, some rave on about "The Absolute Sound" Nirvana but generally that is impossible to reproduce in the home HOWEVER chamber music comes the closest and listening to recordings can be very rewarding.
Note I'm not trashing home reproduction generally, just referring to chamber music reproduction as being relatively easier to reproduce.

Yes chamber music can be reproduced pretty well in the living room if the recording is done right, lots of them are miked to close and may sound good to some ears but they do not sound like the real thing.
Thus it is always best to have some references by attending a few live performances and then one can appreciate fully good recordings.
