I went for The Soviet Experience, Vol III that includes Shostakovich's 9th thru 12th plus Weinberg's 6th. The hi-rez sound is resolved, transparent, and palpable as hi-rez ought to be but isn't always. The perspective is moderately close up with a little hall reverberation; instruments are a little forward, especially the cello; the soundstage isn't deep however -- these latter are more aspects of recording then hi-rez, I'd say.
I had 2-3 other Pacifica Quartet recordings so I didn't feel I was risking much on performance quality -- very solid compared to the several other versions of the Shostakovich quartets that I have. I haven't listen to the Wienberg yet.
A couple of beefs though. Most of the tracks are comprised of two or more movements of the various works and there is no CUE file to separate them -- this is gratuitous and annoying. Also, the metadata tags are very incomplete and I had to add or change them to my own satisfaction.
I love the music of ...... Franz Joseph Haydn

Kal,
Vol 1 is 24/44.1
Vol 2 is mostly 24/96; 4 tracks are 24/44.1
Vol 3 is 24/96.

I could not find the information on their website.

"We began distributing FLAC files at 44.1 kHz. Now, they are at 96 kHz. Using our CD number system, CDRs 001 - 129 and 131 have the sample rate of 44.1 kHz. 130 - 141 (except 131) are at 96 kHz."
Rest assured that vol 1 and 2 have all the tracks properly separated and metadata is OK too. Smth happened with vol 3 apparently.
But some recordings are 24/44.1; not 24/96.
