Honorary of The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts with guests Herbie Hancock, Jack DeJohnette, Roy Hargrove, Christian McBride and Joe Lovano, among others.
Where's Bob Cranshaw who's played with Sonny for about 50 years?
Anyway, Sonny Rollins gets well the deserved honor, how very, very cool is that?
Broadcast tonight on PBS.
Follow Ups:
...That Sonny Rollins would bother to show up for one more Jack-tchift award.
Well... that's true to a certain extent, but I'm trying to remain positive...
So - it's very, very cool!
Go Sonny!!!!

P.S. Nice cats.
But it's a really stupid fookin' way to honor someone, though probably just right for primetime TV land inhabitants. The brief film on Sonny was facile, Cosby didn't seem particularly engaged and it might have been nice if the band
had a chance to stretch out just a bit, and maybe NOT done a tune associated more with Ravi Coltrane's old man
than with SR...Anyway, Sonny looks grand, as does Benny Golson!
