Discovered Liya Petrova this young Russian violin player doing the Mendelsohnn concerto no 2 under the direction of Philippe Herreweghe.
This was the Christmas concert at the King Albert the 2nd of Belgium Palace. Not only does she looks great but she plays very well, looking on Amazon I could not find any cd's, is there any cd's available?? I was impressed.

So many babes...so little chance.
Liszt. I'd even forego his pianistic prowess to get a portion of his babe attraction prowess.

She's not new to those who keep up with Projetto Martha Argerich .
She plays a unique Italian violin labeled "Carlo Tononi 1727".

I am a violin nerd, that's all. Tononi is a lower-tier Italian Golden-Era maker; below Bergonzi but probably above Landolfi. Now that I know that your source was PR, and probably machine-translated PR, I can now be a lot less curious.
And when people say unique, they often mean "ugh." There are dozens if not hundreds of old violins floating around with sculptures instead of standard scrolls, e.g., a fearsome turbaned Turk's head. Ugh.
I attach of photo of an Otto Erdesz cutaway viola, which, although rare, is not "unique."
ATB,

Perhaps, rare is the operative word not unique although that artist you reference may have borrowed it to perform with as this is common for extremely valuable instruments.
Here is the quote
Liya Petrova plays a unique Italian violin labeled “Carlo Tononi 1727”, which is gave by “Deutsche Stiftung Music Leben".
Which I read right here at the bottom of the page.
Interpret it however you like. Correct their English. Read their minds. Whatever.

Gosh, It wasn't a big issue for me. I'm interested in stringed instruments and had not heard of a Tononi violin before. I did a little research and wanted to post it so that others, who might be interested, would be able to check out the instrument on the Wiu website. I apologize if somehow this offended you.
Just asking.

check out the Pellegrina viola by contemporary luthier David L. Rivinus. He designed this viola to be more ergonomic in response to the tendinitis, carpal tunnel syndrome, etc. often suffered by violists. Don Ehrlich, assistant principal at the San Francisco Symphony 1978-2006, played one of these (he actually asked Michael Tilson-Thomas for permission before doing so -- that's how weird it looks). I saw and heard it in action in Davies Hall. He said it sounded like "milk chocolate" where his regular viola sounded like "dark chocolate", but I guess it enabled him to extend his performing career with less pain for a few more years.

The idea of the Erdesz "cutaway" design is presumably to make it easier for the left hand to reach all the way down the fingerboard. The idea of the Rivinus design is presumably in part to do that as well, but mainly to shorten the effective length of the viola, reducing the strain on the wrist and shoulder from reaching to the far end of the fingerboard, while maintaining the volume of the body. I recently read about a scientist who thinks one of the most important characteristics of Stradivari violins is that they consistently had almost exactly the same volume, so maybe Ravinus has the right idea.

But back in the day I didn't have the $10,000.
As I said, the violas you linked to looked like a development or improvement of the Erdesz violas. And, as you stated, the fact that a player felt he had to seek his conductor's permission might indicate that Erdesz (thirty years ago) pushed the envelope as far as the market would tolerate.
I'd love to try one of the new guy's violins with a canted fingerboard.

Don't know. That's what her promo called it -- "unique".

I couldn't find any CD's either - just downloads. It's hard for me to tell much about her playing from streaming videos on YT. From the info I could find, it appears as if she's still studying. On the basis of your picture, I agree she's a babe! ;-)
