And the guy who rediscovered these miraculous works.
Fine sound, esp. when you consider they were made in the 1930s.

The Casals recordings on vinyl sound fine, not distant. I don't know if anything got done to them on the CD release. I heard them on a Quad 33/303 combo with Bowers and Wilkins speakers, and while the cuts don't have the fine detail of a later tape recording, they have presence and warmth.
I did borrow the Casals from the library many years ago and did enjoy it but I always been looking for best sound and performance and the one that I preffer now is Gendron.
I have a few already inclu Ma,Maisky, Fournier (very nice) but the Gendron is the one that I could settle with if I had only one.
I don't like the distant miking in that recording. Sounds as if the listener is far back in an empty hall.
In my system it sounds very natural and tonaly excellent.
I found over the years that these suites can sound very different from
system to system????
