BO-ORING from what I heard. There aren't many minimalists I like excepting in some degree, Arvo Pärt.

Glass is quite effective as a film composer. I also like his score for Kundun and The Illusionist.
But...
The only thing worse than listening to his concert music, however, is having to sing it or play it (I've done both).
For serious art music, minimalism is a blind alley IMO.
I'll admit I'm in no rush to do so however.

The visuals and the music are perfect together, I would advise renting it first though as you may not like it.
Sonically the DVD-Audio is better but it's not the same missing the visual component.

I lot of people don't like Naqoyqaatsi but I love it especially Yo-Yo Ma's cello playing.

I agree that Philip Glass has lost his way. I do think his Kundun soundtrack is excellent though.
Music for people with rocks in their heads.
Actually, John Adams has pretty much escaped the mineralist dead-end, good for him.
For the rest of them, have fun whacking out a G7 chord for 20 minutes.
… I couldn't agree much more with your basic statement about Glass.I bought his "Music In Twelve Parts: Parts One and Two" in the late 1980s and loved/love that LP (on Caroline), especially Part One.
For many years thereafter, I bought more Glass, looking for similar wonder … and NEVER found it. Finally, in the early '90s, I stopped buying his, uh, stuff. I do not personally care for most of his work … and am willing to file it under the heading that Big B. provided.
Regarding Minimalism, I love almost all of Steve Reich's work. To me, no other Minimalist composer comes close.

... the name of which escapes me.
Are you speaking of Shankar and Reich or Shankar and Glass ?
I'm not aware of his collaboration with either of them.
Thanks in advance for the info.
