is that an expansion of stator's over time?
The other way around. It is the diaphragm film that stretches over time and hits the stator grid.

thanks, I know Quad 57's very well since 1977 because I still use 2 and have done all of the repairs on them.
I would imagine Acoustats are just a little bit different. I used to own Acoustat mk 3's many years ago, now long gone unfortunately (bought them working used for 500, those were the days - ever done stupid things?). The Quads are a family treasure even though the "family" does not give a crap. They were my Uncle's originally. that he bought in 1956 in NYC.
Next time I see my Bud, I'll dig into the 1's
here's the innards of my modified MK123 interfaces. As you can see, all of centrally located HV parts are new. I think the big films are OE.
