Although my situation does include two aspects you observed:I think you need small speakers for near-field listening because they need to be well out into the room away from walls.
The speakers are hardly small, but located roughly at room thirds being slightly more than eight feet from front wall (obtained smoothest measured bass that way).
I think the key to optimum near-field listening is having the speakers placed wide apart with the listening position close to the plane of the speakers.
With a sixteen foot room width, the speakers are placed pretty far apart and listening closely is not a challenge since there are no driver blending issues with single diaphragm stats.

I looked at your picture. You can move your listening position forward and backward until you find the position that provides the best soundstage and best sound quality. Of course, I'm sure you've already done that, so you should be good to go.
Happy listening!

It has nearly Golden Ratio or Fibonacci sequence dimensions (25'+ x 16') for minimal modes and is goodly sized. Various room treatments also help.
What I like most is that the soundfield changes little regardless of where you are. Sitting. Standing. Up close. At distance. In front of speakers. Behind them. There is a bit more bass, however, near rear of the room on dormer side with its added length.
A couple of years ago, I made a phone video of the system. While it has understandable limitations, it still conveys the homogenous nature of which I speak. Note the consistency of the sound as I walk around the room with the phone capturing both audio and video. I've since returned a small couch, added diffusion and moved the smaller traps about.
That indention behind your speakers is perfect for your audio equipment rack. Your listening room is very nice looking, too. Much cleaner and better organized than mine!
Thanks for the video!
