Are Tympani IVa bass panels candidates for conversion to quasi-ribbon?

I would say no. The foil conductors will limit the maximum excursion of the woofers, there will less Mylar that can tension. The foil will not tension at all. If low bass is important, I would not use foil conductors on the basses.

The mids are suitable for foil conductors. The smallest cross section foil Magnepan can deliver will give the same resistance as the original round conductors. I did this conversion but will have to do it again as the Mylar lifted from the foam tape across the diaphragm. It is important to have the Mylar attached at the foam tape. That way the moving mass is very low. With foil conductors the diaphragm will be a bit stiffer, in theory improve higher frequencies and hopefully better matching the ribbon tweeter.

    @Steve, what about your TIVa mids, do they have curved back plates? Like this:
    
    Is the Mylar still attached at the foam tape strips? If not, the performance is really degraded. This seems to be common on these mids.

      I have not yet pulled the socks off. The right mid buzzes so I swapped the mids out for B&G RD75's. Much better!

        Yes, they are my foil converted T-IVa mids. I will have to modify them one more time. If your T-IVa mids are buzzing, you need to rebuild them, new Mylar and re-wiring. Maybe, you can sell them to me?
