I've compared a pair of MG20.1s (with or without apostrophe!) with the 3.7s & found the 20.1s markedly better. My experience here is that:
a) very few people have actually heard the 20 series speakers.
b) people tend to love the latest product (& Magnepan obviously encourages that view)
The reality is that the 3.7s aren't close to the 20s series speakers - the logical comparison is *within* the range 20s, 20.1s or 20.7s. Depends a lot on your set-up & situation but *personally* I'd go with the 20s provided they are in good condition.
Follow Ups:
I think the main concern here is the condition -- because of their driver construction, 20's and 20.1's are expensive to repair at Magnepan and not sraightforward to fix yourself, although apparently it can be done by those who are reasonably handy and have a lot of time on their hands. And they have the older adhesive that delaminates.
