Is it absolutely necessary to use the ribbon strips inserts when transporting maggies with ribbons? I would be transporting them in my SUV, about an hour drive. They would not be shipped via a carrier.
Follow Ups:
I moved my MGIIIA's with a rental van and took them on a 4 drive from Detroit to South Bend, IN. With no problems, however there was no wind that day and I was careful not to turn whip them around loading and unloading.
Besides a sudden burst of air, they can be sturdy. Mine were 20yrs old, with the original tweeters, and from the looks of them no special care was given to them.
I would not recommend it. I put mine on anytime I move them. The ribbons are super fragile. So fragile even a sudden burst of air will break them. You might try and try taping cardboard on the back of the ribbon. The guards are to keep air from moving through the tweeter frame. Also I'm sure that Magnapan will sell a set of guards to you as well.
Good Luck,
Jim
just call them.

I suppose if you wrap in bubble wrap, box carefully and put a folded blanket underneath them for cushioning and drive conservatively avoiding bumps, you could get away with it. But maybe not.
I plan to procrastinate my demise for as long as possible. In the meantime, I practice by putting off all the little stuff.
