What happened? Ever try adjusting your driver's seat forward or back and not clicking it into place? Yep, that's all it took. Quite amazing.
So, the pilots seat sprung backwards on take off and the pilot's hand inadvertently kicked back the thrust levers to their off position and the rest is history.
So, that's like taking your foot off the gas pedal and having your engine stall on you.

Jed, where did you get this info? Thanks

"Gobsmacked, over and out !!!!"
So pilot adjusted seat and thought it was in locked position. This has happened to me while driving no big deal. Clearly a design defect that a warning wasn't given prior to take off that the seat wasn't locked in position. Slothy MFers I'm betting some cutback or deregulation somewhere led to this catastrophe. Surely the airline will be made whole by some special insurance deal they get while homeowners around the country can't buy flood insurance. Are the families of the dead compensated by the airlines for these kinds of things?

but how do both engines shut off during takeoff? They must have dual completely independent systems for those engines.

They should have been offering the cockpit premium pack, with the electric 5 way adjustable seats, as standard.
I can't believe that in the 2000s an airline can have the exact same crash that we had as teenagers in an old Chevy or Ford.......

Must be a fail on human design and even if the pin was not suppose to get stuck, I guess all is OK, as what is 1 in 10,000 may crash? I'd prefer 1 in 50,000 actually.

since my seats are not regularly adjusted by hundreds of different folks. The throttle is not controlled by my hands nor have I *ever* experienced an aerodynamic stall in a car. Have done that deliberately, however, in a small 152 during training. The power on spin variation does increase pucker factor. ;)
Must be a fail on human design...
Indeed! Humans do have a design failure to always pay attention. Traffic crashes of one sort or another alone take out 3700 people every day.
U.S. airlines operate approximately 27,000 flights per day.
Personally, I would not be happy nor content with a crash every couple of days.
BTW, Air India isn't a U.S. airline.

Its sense of humor is both ironic and grotesque. This will surely be featured in the next "Final Destination" movie.
all they wil need is put a manual (or electronic) override on engine off. Simple enough, and fix that damn seat mechanism, of course.
