Imagine making the decision to keep fighting instead of saying "ok we quit" like Japan and Germany did -or- to choose to use civilians as shields and stop them from leaving when warned to leave.
Poor judgement = poor choices like the proud video's they made of the Oct sucker punch attack that brought on this disaster
Hamas with their tunnels under hospitals, schools, etc.
International law says preventing civilian casualties take priority over killing adversary combatants.

I can't speak for them but since the surprise attack that started this current mess focused on attacking , killing and kidnapping women and children vs a military operation shows a lack of concern for international law.
Perhaps they felt when about to strike back, that in light of the attack, warning them to leave was sufficiently civilized given who they were dealing with.
Given the absence of concern the attackers had for international law and civilized behavior I would say in that light, Israel has been careful and as easy as a pattern of Vietnam era daisy cutters would clear larger areas of the enemy and buildings, they have been much more selective.
Do you think letting up before the war is over and Hamas gives up, is a good idea?
Would explaining what international law says about attacking civilians or even using their own civilians and hospitals as shields and ammo depots help?
Or explain that having a long term political platform based on attacking a neighboring country, is not a path to peace but rather a path that leads to explosive disassembly.
I agree with most of what you wrote. But I can't agree with:

Israel's presumed target is to destroy the hateful HAMAS leadership and its followers. Good.
But, over the past year and a half, Israel has destroyed entire cities, and killed thousands of people. Yet, they have not "destroyed" HAMAS.
I wonder if they even have a clue. And, I wonder what their goal really is.
Clearly, the current approach to "destroying HAMAS" isn't working, and their leadership are idiots.
Why, after all these thousands of deaths and destruction, is there still "HAMAS leadership" to "negotiate" with?! Does Israel have an "intelligence" department, or NOT?, which can "take them out"?
Is the "leadership" off-limits?

OTOH, from the POV of Netanyahu and his right-wing radicals, it has given Israel the opportunity to fully occupy Gaza, concentrate the Gazans where IDF has firm control, and generally make them more miserable in the vague hope that somehow they will just all go away.

There is no shame in pointing out the terrible decision makers that continue fighting at such a high cost to their people/shields.
If the post i responded to had actual numbers, it is more costly than past wars and how making the Oct 7 video's to send back in the sucker punch attack actually infuriated the victims more than the sucker punch attack.
They got what they asked for and had to know full well what would happen in response to that Oct attack
They refused to quit like the black knight in the Holy Grail and not like the Germans or Japanese who's leaders eventually said "enough death is enough death".
No these folks don't think like westerners do, obviously don't care how many are killed or harmed or they would have stopped or at least let the civilians leave.
No they refuse to admit defeat, the very thing that ended most past wars, they and those funding it outside don't want it to end.

Israel is an occupying force. It has no right to wage the war according to international law. It is occupying the territory and has no right to expect peace . That would be ridiculous.
The main source of outside funding the conflict is USA.

to create state with one race and one religion. I support the same in US. Please start implementing it in Detroit first. America is just another Anglo-Saxon empire with "divide-and rule" politics. There is nothing special about it in regards of " a gift to humanity" term. If it is a true Satan we will learn when /if it will start losing its grip on world's economy and start declining fast and even people like you will notice the trend and recognize the good times are not ever coming back. It may never happen and US will never get the taste of its own medicine and learn it's true identity or it may turn into "Daddy" and prove everybody wrong.
