This clown showed up un-announced at a formal cabinet briefing, tried to bully his way to the front and had his staffer film the whole thing, which (natch) he immediately released to the press. For the violation of his civil rights. As a sitting U.S. Senator, he could raise the First Amendment and due process (14th Amendment) issues.

1. His right to free speech and peaceful protest was infringed.

2. The use of force by law enforcement was unjustified and politically motivated.

3. His status as a federal official makes the incident even more serious constitutionally.

    A sitting U.S. senator has wide-ranging freedom of speech, bolstered by both the First Amendment and the Speech or Debate Clause, but accountability mechanisms still exist to prevent abuse of that freedom in or out of office.
    But he never abused that power. He declared he was a Senator before asking the question. But yet they still escorted him out in handcuffs.

      A US Senator has no more wide ranging freedom of speech than I have, except for the right to speak on the floor of the Senate, and to vote in the Senate of course. He barged in, advanced toward the Secretary, and didn't identify himself until after he was restrained. That's is irrelevant though, because his office does not give him the right to interrupt and interfere with any other person. He was not within his rights and was treated as anyone else would have been, except, in the end he wasn't held and charged with anything.

    Specifically, voters traditionally considered reliable "D" that crossed over. Like young males, African Americans, Hispanic (or Latino or whatever the proper term now is), legal naturalized immigrants, union members etc. Just about everything going on right now was predictable from past performance and project 2025 so I believe this is truly "the will of the people". The issue wasn't ever the fact he wanted to catch illegal aliens, the issue was he could care less how he violated the rights of Hispanic/Latino Americans. Of course the nuance of that difference is finer than the comprehension of about 1/2 of America. I'm convinced that some 1/3 of Arizonans consider illegal immigrant = Mexican American.
And another observation on this issue. Long ago I became a proponent of criminalizing and prosecuting American businesses for hiring illegal aliens. And Obama actually set up tools for States to use to insure only legal citizens would be employed (at least if the tools were used employers could not be criminally accountable if illegal aliens were hired). Not traction on that solution though it seems that American business profits more than anyone else on the backs of illegal aliens. As always business gets it's cake and gets to eat it too. Not to mention the taxpayer money spent building law enforcement agencies to keep people safe. Immigration the issue just keeps on giving.

        I lived here during his tenure and he was accused of and convicted of violating the rights of US citizens on numerous occasions. Not only that MCSO was subject to civil lawsuits costing the citizens of Maricopa County hundreds of millions of dollars.
        
        Tent city, bologna sandwiches and pink inmate garb were endearing features of Joe Arpaio's murderous and criminal stay as Maricopa County Sheriff.
