If Pete had just been honest about his gambling problem and admitted he did it and said he wouldn't do it again, he would have been in the HOF easily in his lifetime. But he lied and didn't finally admit it for what, 15 years? And he wouldn't stop betting on baseball. He was addicted to gambling. He dug his own grave and jumped in it.
