I am surprised you don't understand what is happening.Basically nothing. A fat clown wanted to have his ego stroked, and Zelensky being a smart guy did that.
They both walk away knowing full well they achieved nothing, but the fat idiot will go on TV boasting about his peace making skills and Zelensky takes home a bit of a good news about the weapons - which still might be just a vaporware.
Of which he (trump) has none, but it is a stupid game, and they both get some benefits from that idiotic announcement.
Ukraine knows it doesn't want a ceasefire because it only works in russia's favor, but they pretend to accept the proposal (not the ceasefire, just words) knowing full well it is not going to happen.
So good PR and photo op for trump, and some real benefits for Ukraine... but nothing else.

Ukrainians reportedly have supplies to last them a year and are mass producing drones and missiles.
Since they can't rely on US anyway what leverage US has to force the deal rally ? Even Russians say that the only person interested in a peace agreement at this point is Trump.
Still, Ukrainians are on defensive and are not in a position to change that situation. Ceasefire serves them more becuase Europeans are readying support and because Ukrainian troops are exhausted and in need of rotation.
The peace deal which is on the table resembles capitulation and has no chance to pass. On the other hand, anything less than that and Russians lost million of souls for nothing. Worse, it would ensure determined, deadly and vengeful armed forces supplied with arms by EU as a constant and credible threat on the border. Russians have to break that army and turn Ukraine into subjugated territory with restricted and weak armed forces. They enthusiastically welcome US change of heart not becuase they believe it will lead to any short term solution but becuase it gives them validation and justify their actions.
How long will they last without munitions from the US?
The US can cut off aid and pressure the rest of Europe to do likewise.

next year and it won't be able to sustain the war in present capacity. Eu munitions manufacturing will pick up and Ukraine's own production will accelerate as well. That's what I was able to pick up from Polish think tank report from Ukraine visit. They were shocked by the level of Ukrainian cruise and ballistic missile developments and drone producing capacity. They want now to convince Polish industry to start building the missiles on Ukrainian patents instead of buying it from US. From Russian bloggers I heard China is indifferent in selling the products as long as there is a buyer so they sell million simple drones to Russia and million of the same drones to Ukraine. Money doesn't stink. The reality is nobody in public sphere knows anything for sure and what the truth is. We can only argue on principle and observe the official theatre.
If one day you feel the desire to learn a bit more than what the prime time news tells you about Ukraine, we might talk.

It takes too long to get their shit together. Germany finally promised to spend more in defence but they do not even have a government yet. The NL MP just shot down €800bn defence spending plan. I am not surprised if other EU countries follow suit.

They are already doing it.It is going to take some time to get there, but they are moving and the proper dynamics are there. Why do you think Rheinmentall is building factories in Ukraine?
The re-arming drive is going to cover not just Ukraine, but also the other vulnerable countries such as the Baltics.

But then the Soviets regrouped and Finland realized it was going to lose and made peace.
Ukraine made a good showing on its own at the beginning but it was never going to last. Russia's bigger, has more people, can sustain more casualties, can build more weapons.

You are wrong treating it as some border conflict, you will be surprised in 2-3 years.

My wife and I are gonna renew our passports while we still can. I'm giving serious thought to getting the hell out. I'm eligible for Italian citizenship. Once granted, we could live anywhere in the EU. Spain would be my choice.

It's likely there will be no future there and US will be in much better situation just becuase it is US which is pulling the strings not EU. There is an opinion that US will start to cannibalize it's vasals economies to keep itself from sinking. This is what we are observing now in some beginning stages.
