The issue is how diffuse or spread out is the energy, the energy density.
Gasoline (oil) is easy to get and very dense.

The ultimate Thomas Midgley solution would be in the name of green energy, would be to harness the mid-atlantic conveyor current as a source of power.

Then after say 20-30 years, it is determined that it has slowed and is stopping, the hallmark of the past and next ice-age. Thus, a perfect modern political style solution and those in the know, by then own all the oil.
