Links to their broadcasting in the link. Mostly to former Soviet republics & satellites of the former Soviet Union. Also a few services to the Middle East and South Asia.
All the old broadcast tapes from decades past still exist. The Hoover Institution acquired them just over a decade ago. Here's a descriptive link for Hoover's RFE/RL collections:

Hoover's main project is digitizing all those old reel to reel tape broadcasts (wish them luck with that...). You can listen to some of this material online (but the web pages are slow). There are also a lot of paper records too, and I did some work with those. I've got photos of the original RFE/RL facilities, the broadcast tower, the electronic gear, and the people.
Was wonderful work digging through old historical documents when I worked at the Hoover Archives. Now I live in Oregon and no longer do this work.
Follow Ups:
First? How are you and Oregon getting along? I spent part of a summer in Medford, did some backpacking and even made it to Crater Lake in time for a broken water pipe to INFECT everyone.....
good Times.
With RFE still in business? I DOUBT I could get 'em here.....they'll be beaming to where they are 'listened' to most. I guess the good old days of JAMMING are gone, eh?
I have a good SONY ICF2010 which was THE standard in its class long after it should have been retired. Wonderful radio with many useful features....
These days I'd like to get my HAM ticket.....But testing is a little dicey these days THAN I'd need to get a good radio....Not one of the Beofeng radios....I want waterproof / and REALLY want the Yaesu.
Too much is never enough
The Willamette Valley in Oregon is a nice slice of paradise but for one thing. Here in the Corvallis/Albany area it's the grass seed capital of the world. When they harvest that stuff most people (including me) suffer serious allergies for a couple months.Otherwise life in the valley is good. Small towns, friendly people, tree-lined streets. Rent here in Corvallis is about 1/2 to 1/3 of what people pay in the SF Bay Area, where I used to live. Even better for me would be to migrate over the nearby coastal range of hills to the coastal town of Newport. It's only about 40 minutes from Corvallis, and it's free of allergies and grass pollen.
Sad that the internet pretty much killed most short wave radio broadcasting. I have a cheapie Tecsun PL-880 shortwave radio, but haven't done much with it. I do collect top of the line FM tuners; the Onkyo T9090 II being the best of the bunch. Boxed away somewhere I've got an FM tube tuner from the late 1940s.

Collecting HiFi gear is a bottomless pit. ALWAYS 'one more'......
Only thing worse? Owning a BOAT. I see an Aspirational boat. 44 foot EastBay made by Grand Banks/ Twin Diesels. Comprehensive Electronics. Might burn 20 gallons per HOUR.
Incredibly well appointed thruout. Nothing skimped. Fill 'er up at the gas dock COULD run a Grand.....
BUT? Probably 3/4 Million $ and WAY beyond even aspirational. This one is 1.3 Million....so flip thru the pics. But you CAN get to the 3/4 Million range IF you are OK with one built 15 years ago. Ad I link is a 3 year old boat.....
Downside of Oregon coastal? Or within 20 miles? Cascadia Fault.which starts south in California waters and goes way north. When THIS one lets go? You'd WISH you were back in SF.....My brother used to tell me 'no EQs in Idaho' where he lived, but THIS will be quite the exception.....I've toured Boise and they are NOT ready for something like this.
When I spent some time on the far Western side of Idaho, we'd drop over and SHOP because of no sales tax....as did virtually everyone ELSE within 40 miles of the border! We were near Ontario. Lots of neat rivers......
Good part of Willamette Valley? HOPS. If you are a home brewer? Some VERY fine hops....
Too much is never enough
