Back in the 70's I a had a contraption for changing brain waves to alpha. Anybody on here know of music that can do that? I also had some experience with trance music back then. Ash Ra Tempel was one group I can remember. I don't remember much about the effects on me, but a guy I knew back then called it "picture music". Supposedly it could make one feel like having taken LSD, etc.
Follow Ups:
I am reading that isochronic tones are stronger than reportedly weak binaural beats for brainwave entrainment. Below is some alpha put up by someone who gets very positive comments. People are raving about his sub delta for pain relief.

Lots of good suggestions.
Sub titled, "Thinking Music". Great for relaxing, and I once read it's used to relax mothers in delivery rooms.
This might be worth a listen but there is no commentary on it that I see and so I don't know if he was trying for a specific frequency of entrainment. EDIT: This is being described as a Theta experience.

Jeffery Thompson has some brainwave entertainment disks you might like. Hemi-sync is another producer of these type of recordings. Tons of stuff on youtube. It is theta waves that are considered to be the frequency that can produce imagery. I had a substantial collection of these types of recordings bought mainly in the hope that the theta wave ones would produce imagery but I was for the most part disappointed. For a major alternation of consciousness nothing beats the flotation tank in my experience although siting in a giant amethyst cathedral while someone plays a crystal bowl was an interesting experience. One of the best recordings that I lost track of was one side of the original Zygon's meditate like a monk recording. If I can find it I'll post it.

I use this type of music off and on just to relax. Many different flavors on YouTube.

Pedal steel, and, to a lesser degree, some "fiddle" passages in old country & western music "tickle" my brain. I have a similar response to some chorus passages in Italian film music, esp. by the choral group I Cantori Moderni. I'd like to see what's goin' on in my head when I listen to this stuff. Below is an example - the pedal steel solo near the end of this live performance by Gram Parsons and the Fallen Angels. To get the full-on brain effect, I listen to the cd on my system. It's like a drug or dare I say a brain orgasm.
you should try some pedal steel players doing jazz
such as the jazz standard at the link ....
regards,
Tchaikovsky does it to me, but that could be my heritage.
Happy The Man most certainly!
Isn't that what music is all about and why we're all inmates here?
Our neighborhood is pretty quiet. Darn near tranquil. Except when various neighbors leave their dogs out barking incessantly. Then, my brain waves change and my blood pressure and pulse go up. Inconsiderate idiots.
