Second of all, most of our presidents have been mediocre at best.
I'd rate Buchanan as one of the worst for sure. He was a slavery sympathizer who helped bring on the Civil War.
Another guy I'd rate as the worst ever to occupy the office is Andrew Jackson. He made his fortune driving slave coffles. Led extermination raids against the Creek.
He committed genocide against Native Americans on behalf of his slave-holding buddies in the cotton industry.
His main policy goals were: Strengthen and spread slavery, exterminate Native Americans, gin up a war with Mexico so we could seize the West.
Not a guy I'd ever vote for, that's for damned sure.
For the record, I don't think Jimmy Carter was a bad president. He couldn't act the part as well as Reagan could and was largely a victim of the guy he appointed as head of the Federal Reserve. He deregulated trucking and airlines, something I didn't agree with.
Biden hasn't even been in office for a year. Nobody will be able to judge his presidency for another decade. At least.

Agreed on Andrew Jackson. I lost any respect I had for John Meacham after reading "American Lion". He dismissed, with a few paragraphs, the entire "Trail of Tears" tragedy as an inevitable consequence of western expansion.
The End of the Myth by Greg Grandin, too depressing to finish.
The Founders coalition didn't like Jackson, thought he was totally unsuited for the White House, but they wanted the Native Americans gone without getting their own hands dirty. Thomas Jefferson wrote about exterminating them, but was too squeamish to do more. Jackson was the perfect tool for that. He was a stone killer and didn't care who knew.
That streak in the American psyche that's so self destructive, "I have the right to do whatever I please. Nobody can tell me otherwise and I don't give a damn who gets hurt," that's Jacksonianism.
That attitude put 750,000 of us under the ground from Covid. So far.

Too sad. That doesn't surprise me about Jefferson. Backstabber during Washingtons presidency and even more so during Adams. Has his 13 year old slave brought to Paris as the "guardian of his daughter". Never freed his slaves, including Sally Hemmings, and died in debt up to his ass.
I agree that there are number of ho hum pres. over the years but I am hoping Andrew stays on a 20$ bill. He is now very controversial but he also has done number of good things ( well, paying off the national debt for one ) I do believe that he lived for country's good at that time. West expansion: well, not too good for native folks but I believe it was a necessary evils to establish the country.
Jimmy Carter was also doing the right thing at that time but execution was muddled and not very effective. Tho I think he is one of the straight up good man. I respect him for it.
TBD on Biden. Some policy I agree with. Some policy not so much. Hope he stays healthy through the term cuz Harris would be worse.

And was Grover Cleveland a better pitcher than Grover Cleveland Alexander?
Did Grover Cleveland ever strike out Babe Ruth? Did Grover Cleveland Alexander have a thing for Baby Ruths?
My opinion of Jackson is that anything good he did for the country had to have been an accident.
As far as his ugly pan staring back from the twenty, if you took him off, you'd have to take all of them off, pretty much for the same reasons.
Other than Lincoln on the five.

The guy was a stand up. He admitted he fathered an illegitimate child and owned up to it. ( unlike 'I had not sex with that woman' Clinton )
A good character goes a long way with me.

Back in those days they ran a scathing dirty presidential smear campaign.

What I have seen in recent years seem tame in comparison.

Yet, even the worst among them DID have a following.....
Too much is never enough
People get brand-identified and they double down when confronted with uncomfortable facts.

"Chock Full Of Nuts" unfortunately describes society at large.
