Tommy did his best on "Giant Steps" but you can tell he was struggling a bit. But then, that piece has challenged more than one musician.

This guy would be my choice. But then, I love his playing so much that I may well be biased.

I think he kind of made up for it on "Cousin Mary". Tommy was an excellent musician but Coltrane was in a different league. As great as it was I don't think he ever recorded "Giant Steps" again. I suspect by the time that record was released he had already moved on, following something only he could hear. An amazing man.

Amazing indeed. All great but I kept going back to Red Garland. Wow. Thanks for this. Loved it.
