Supposedly the 45 and 46 make excellent driver tubes, but I have never tried them myself as drivers. Lynn Olson's Karna is a push-pull 300B amp with a pair of 45's as drivers. Each stage is transformer coupled.

You should listen to the Thomas Mayer 46 SE -the sweetest sounding valve amp churning out 1.5 watts per channel...Seems to work really well with Harbeth P3ESRs and Voxativ drivers...Not bad with Chartwell LS3/5A either..
