I owned a pair of maggies for a couple of years (the tall version) and found them a tad bit on thr shrill side. I was driving them with a Cit V too, which I have since sold. Regreting that decision at the moment now that I have the ESL's. I am hoping the ESL's won't have the harshness I heard in the maggies as it was fatiging. I do have a mono quad 6bq5 (Eico 32) that I might try to find a mate for to run the esl's. They should do adecent job.

I'm glad my wife and I aren't the only ones who hear the shrillness in Maggies. We listened to several models a couple of years ago (though not the ones with ribbon tweets)and they all exhibited a treble resonance. I think maybe Maggie lovers are interpreting it as detail.
Now the Maggies I bought in 1979 didn't sound shrill. Either that or I liked shrillness at the time which is quite possible as I owned and loved LaScalas at the time.
This is my experience as well with maggies and I've owned MG1.6's in the past. It took me a while to notice the coloration in the lower treble, but once I did, it was always there. I guess once you know where something is you go looking for it.
