It's fascinating to me to learn how many of you guys have both of these speakers, and would like to, or will, keep them both. I had no idea! Even though my 19s are up for sale, I won't be too upset if they don't sell. I'll get to enjoy them awhile longer then ;^)
I think Vinnie and Paul both championing the lack of horn coloration in Model 19s is testament to their quality, which I believe is superb. In my lengthy posting on why the Quad ESL-63s do it for me, I was trying to emphasize the differences I perceive for Vinnie's benefit. My experience/impressions ya understand. I agree with Paul, by the way, that the Model 19s may have a little too much bass in their balance. This was exaggerated when I had mine in a corner. I have had them out in the room away from all boundaries and against the wall but out of the corners, both of which positions improve the bass a good deal when compared to placing them in a corner. I don't think anyone would be right to call them "bass shy". Maybe a bit the other way.

Follow Ups:
Have to agree on the bass. I too have ended up with them out of the corner and against the back wall. In my listening room th3ey sound best in that position. I have added a paair of velodyne subs that I got a good deal on, and by running the signal through the amp in the subs before it goes to the altecs I have been able to get lower extension and a less boomy bass. I am thinking I could try them with the Quads too.
