Looking at getting my last disc player. I have several SACD's bought when it was "the thing". I don't know if there's a current affordable ($5,000 or so) player that does CD's and SACD's well. Probably easier to find a CD only player. Question is, can you rip the SACD layer, or the SACD (I have a few SACD only discs) for single layer discs? I could then get the CD player and stream the SACD's that I have instead of using the disc. I searched and there was some discussion a couple of years ago that it really wasn't possible without studio equipment, but things move fast in the digital realm, so maybe someone came up with a solution since then.
I think Marantz and maybe Yamaha are the SACD players on the market that I'm aware of, within my price range that is, not sure how they do regular cd's though.

Yes you can. I did this with my Oppo 103 I ripped the SACD to 24 bit 88.2 kHz PCM. After you get the hang of it, it went fairly smoothly.
The SACD layer is DSD64, not 24/88 PCM.

Thanks for the correction as apparently I was too brief in my explanation. Yes the rip is DSD, I then converted to PCM using dBpoweramp.
Pardon my ignorance, why would you rip a DSD, then convert to PCM?
My DAC's (Schiit) don't support playing a DSD file, so I convert them to PCM. I have less then 20 SACD's compared to hundreds or standard redbook CD's, so it wasn't a concern to buy a DAC to play the few DSD files. The PCM 24/88.2 actually sound great too, so I don't feel like I am missing out on anything.

It's pretty easy and not too expensive to own a DAC that plays just about all digital formats and even sounds great doing it. I discovered FiiO about two years ago and they make little portable digital players that actually sound just as good if not better than full size DACs. I own a Mytek Brooklyn Bridge and it sounds superb, but it cost $3000. For $450 you can buy a FiiO M11 digital player that sounds almost as good and plays all the digital formats up through DSD256. If you want one that does sound just as good as my Brooklyn Bridge, both the FiiO M11 Pro and the FiiO M15 will provide absolutely awesome sound quality. However, the standard M11 is just about as good and it has ports for two 1TB micro SD cards so you can store your whole digital library. The best part is that it plays all the formats directly from its plugin micro SD cards so there's no need for a computer. You'll see all your albums on its one-megapixel touch screen display.
I now own the Flagship M15 and it has become my main digital player. If I'd discovered FiiO before I bought my Brooklyn Bridge, I'd never have bought it.

Thanks. I recall some of that information. There's a 103 on Audiogon at the moment for $350. I'll keep that in mind.
That's a valid approach but dated. There are newer, better apps and many other universal players that are capable of the task.

Of course, MY Sony BDP isn't on that list! I did check the Amazon and several are available used, cheap ($50-75) so that certainly is an option to try. I'm definitely no computer whiz, but I certainly have time to kill right now, so why not try it out.
