I was pleasantly surprised by their comfort, excellent midrange and bass, ease of being driven and the ambience and soundstage. Not the last word in treble and transparency but good. A great all rounder that I got for $76 shipped on Amazon. I've had AKG K701's, 501's, Grado 125's, and Senn 600's. They all had their strengths but I really don't miss the AKG's and Senn's, although I think both the 600's and 701's are better phones. Can't beat the price/performance ratio of the AT's, though. If you buy from Amazon, I think you can return them, if you don't like them. Break in of 50-100 hours is highly recommended and I think, makes a big difference. You might want to give them a try. Who knows, you might like them. BTW, I primarily use them for nighttime listening, in bed, before I fall asleep.

Thanks for the suggestion Billy . I think I will just wait until next month and listen to that and some other brands at the next event.
Coming Sunday, August 7th, noon-4 PM, it's the Fifth Annual HeadRoom and Friends Event at the Holiday Inn, Buena Park, Grand Ballroom. If anyone is interested. It was pretty good last year. They have food , drinks and they raffle off a few thousand dollars worth of items.

You mentioned nighttime listening. The ATH-AD700 are open-air phones. If you are trying to avoid disturbing others, a closed design might work better. If not, they look like a great value.
