Thanks for the advice. I am jealous as used K501s are now pretty much unobtainable particularly in my part of the world. Spare earpads are available though!I'm not sure but I think they may have come from AKG before being taken over by Harman. I suppose they are now owned by Samsung - I guess that may be the reason that AKG IEMs are now bundled with their top of the range phones.
Will they ever produce a true succesor to the K501s? I think that the K550s may now be the nearest product.

MassDrop is dumping Beyerdynamic DT880 & DT990 32-Ohm Headphones at $169.
If these are anything like the 32 Ohm DT770 (most say the open and semi-open versions above sound BETTER) these are a DEAL. Almost as good as the MassDrop Sennheiser 6XX that MassDrop recently sold literally THOUSANDS of pairs for about $200.
MassDrop (MassDump to its friends) sells a lot of crap that is discontinued for a very good reason, but the re-labeling of the Sennheiser HD-650 as the HD-6XX at $200 was the deal of a lifetime, at least IMNSHO.

Thanks Ivan but I have 600 ohm DT880s and they are great if you like the zound of ztringz. As one of the headphone review sites puts it " a rather zippy treble". Measurements bear this out too, a big spike at either 600 or 900Hz if I recall correctly.
Sadly Massdrop is not a UK website so buying from them for me involves payment of duty, VAT and the customs service charge levied by the carrier. That can rather undermine the discount.
Especially the ones with a 'T' for Tesla which sound WAY too tipped up for me.
My DT770 doesn't annoy me at all and tipped up phones do annoy me a lot!
Could the 32 Ohm DT770 be that much different from the 600 Ohm DT880?

I believe the higher impedance phones have tighter bass.
