I recently got that environment completely repainted along with epoxy coating on the floor. During the five day curing period, I tried some fast claps to recall the high amount of slap echo found in the untreated room. Two lingered for seconds!
While I've still got some automobilia stuff to hang, I finished setting the system back up and getting the diffusors, aka nubby Walmart door mats hung on the walls. Previously I also used three DIY damping panels made about twenty five years ago but they had almost fallen apart so I retired them. Still, the wall treatments significantly tamed the slap echo problem. Ended up getting a new rolling work bench as well.
Now that my motorcycle got flattened by the neighbor's fallen pine tree, I can position the speakers further away from front wall where I previously parked it. While the main system is sonically superior to the modest Advent/Fosi system in many ways, I still spend as much time out there enjoying outdoors and puttering around with projects. Good enough!
What's left is getting the new three section hexagonal lights installed on each side of center LVL. Traveling to Montreal tomorrow but will get my electrician neighbor to get that done next week. :)![]()

Thanks for sharing.... you are a man's man.
Spotless garages....someone who does not have purpose or meaning in life.
Your garage is a symbol of a man who has plenty of important stuff, projects and testosterone !!
Tool on dude ! ... you've made many here jealous.... (me of course excluded).
Lots of people with clean garages make up for the implied emptiness and superficiality by never doing any house cleaning.
my purpose in life is to enjoy retirement after working for fifty years.
Enjoying dinner in Montreal after taking in the qualification rounds for tomorrow's F1 race. :)

Just your normal pile of junk... tools, compressor, used to keep 20 small gas engines there, , in addition to two cars, fewer now.But here are some shots of my basement... where I spend a lot of my time.

As that is not a garage but an operating room.
My cars always go in garage but surrounded by shelves of Stuff and wood in between roof joists
Next door neighbor completely remodeled his house and added a huge Garage Mahal that has fifty can lights in the ceiling. I kidded him about needing that much light for his operating theater!
We enjoy having music in the background while we work on cars, clean the garage, or other garage tasks. It is something we enjoy. Why not use a nicer setup if available or have the means to do so. I repurposed a Denon AV receiver and some pawn shop JBl speakers to use in the garage. Plays anything we can plug into it plus we can stream WiFi and Bluetooth. Our garage is exceptionally large,,,,extended 4 car garage in both depth and width.
Going to add a TV so I can switch EQ settings and catch a glimpse of musicians playing when I don't know who it is. Transistor is fine if all you want is some background music...-for us, we want music and whatever task we are doing, to be in unison so that we can work and enjoy music with better fidelity. Yeah, for some, so whatever, for others, it's a why not do it. It's not audiophile quality, but way better than transistor or Bose.
I used a Sony boombox but found some used New Advents twenty five years ago and never turned back.
They weren't expensive and are currently driven by an inexpensive Fosi integrated using a Raspberry Pi transport fed by the NAS media server. Sometimes use a repurposed iPhone8 for playing SiriusXM, Amazon Music or Bandcamp. I spent more for one of the power cords in main system. ;)
An S2000 on one side of the garage (they are fun) and a Porsche sign on the other. Excellent
How does the exhaust sound with the acoustic treatment panels on the wall? Perhaps aftermarket exhausts are on the todo list. Haha

I'm usually able to coast in from off the street so not so much. The gutteral burble when Wifey backs in the Box, however, is sweet music to these ears. :)

And comes with a speedloader. Both cylinders and BBs are in magazine. All furniture functions like mil-spec AR.
Cousin has a suppressed Q Sugar Weasel which is pretty sweet. I ended up getting a FFA suppressor stamp for my 300 BLK and bought a Trash Panda. Considering buying a Honey Badger. :)
I have done years of four matches a month seasons, lot of time on the road, thousands of rounds per week .
That was ton of fun, but I have different interests now. Sold some of my shooting gear, will be selling more.
Am I going to do it again? Possibly... not as extensively, but at a recreational speed perhaps. Problem is - I am competitive. I like to see my name up high on the list, so I am not sure just being there and shooting is going to satisfy me. I know I would not shoot as well now.

Lots of hard, flat surfaces! Reminds me of "the shop" way back when I was doing commercial sound system installations. The whole place was concrete, plaster and glass. The owner and I would meet up after dinner and play Pink Floyd, ELP, et al, cranked to the max on the E-V Sentry III speakers. Good times. :)
Have a great time in Canada.

that some very wealthy audiophiles seek that approach. I commented on that kind of glass and concrete environment in an old post.
I'm sure we'll have another great time there. Might even have a bit of Poutine.
I still can't understand the peculiarly American practice of installing hi-fi in a garage!Garages are generally places to store cars, workbench, tools, junk, etc and never used as a recreational place. They are (or really should be) uncomfortable, dirty workplaces visited when necessary to find or fix something.
The nearest thing to hi-fi in any garage I've ever seen might be an old radio covered in dust but able to provide a little noise while fixing something or tidying up the garage if this takes more than a few minutes.
There are places for hi-fi but surely not in the garage. Better (though still surely a nonsense) maybe to install a secondary system in the bathroom - most people spend far more time there than in their garage?
Or do some people use their garages to escape from their Other Half, or does their Other Half send them there for the sake of marital harmony? Better to go fishing perhaps than be stuck in a garage? ;-)

or ear pod to listen to music wherever/whenever they choose to or can.
Setting up anything resembling a "system" better than say, a Bose box (not knocking that)
usually requires more time and effort than financial investment in getting more satisfying
or enjoyable sound reproduction.
THAT'S the sign of a true "audiophile" BTW, the time, energy and dedication
involved in listening, not the financial expense.

Some folks use their garage for storage and stuff them full of junk while parking their cars in the driveway and on the street. Others park their cars in the garage along with a few gardening supplies and tools. My garage is not that well kept but here in Colorado the the cars collect several inches of snow. Snow and dirt on the tires get packed under the wheel wells and eventually melt onto the garage floor as mud.The garage is basically a multipurpose room and you use it as you see fit. As nice and tidy as E-Stat's garage is, I don't understand the need for a pair of stereo speakers unless he somehow faces them and sits in the sweet spot while working on his vehicles ;-) I have one lone powered speaker in my garage. At 80-Watts RMS it does a fine job for the little amount of time I spend out there.

The space in front of the gray Subaru would fit a 3rd car but instead has a workbench, tools, shelving, and a 2nd freezer for

The place is full of garden equipment, a food freezer, non-perishable food supplies, and a massive amount of hoarded junk my wife refuses to get rid of.
At our ages down-sizing is inevitable in just a few year -- then of necessity there will be huge purge. There will be anger and tears shed.

NOT the 51st state, eh!?!
...-and a massive amount of hoarded junk my wife refuses to get rid of.
That's how my wife's parents garage looks. They are in the process of moving and we along with other family members have been helping them thin the herd of junk. One thing we found, however, was a small bag of birdseed used at our wedding 39 years ago!
I love your choice of ceiling and wall finishes!
Very post-modern/industrial.

Practical too. No need to hunt for studs with a stud finder when I want to mount something to a wall.

you can find me there with a tall glass of tea filled with ice!

Actually, wifey enjoys the TV in the bathroom while she gets ready in the morning. Since it has a Roku, it *can* also access the media server and play music.
From pictures you've posted, it seems you live in a downtown high-rise flat. Our home is in a quiet golf neighborhood where many folks ride around in carts. The garage is perpendicular to the street so not really visible to those who pass by. Very different environments.
I just like listening to music wherever I may be. The Advents take me back to when I first had a pair at age 15. :)

"Better to go fishing perhaps"
I'd rather have a hifi system in the garage than go fishing. What a waste of time and money. Fish is cheap. Fishing is expensive.

Fishing is a calling. It takes you to a place I'd much rather be, in touch with nature and your surrounding environment. I see new and amazing things every time I launch my boat
Fishing is for fun, not for fish, which should be put back.

Is your house for sale? It struck me as a staged property by a realtor.
The next buyer will have the garage stuffed full of so much junk that they can't get a single car into a 3-car garage.

Just tidying up a bit from the version you see in my gallery and below. Originally, I did one of those "garage floor kits" but wasn't entirely successful with the hot tire thing as you can see. :)I took lots of pics to restore my collection of signs and stuff but am trying to lean it out a bit. And replace rusty nails with galvanized screws. Gave away the big ladders hung from ceiling and new hexagonal LED lighting should replace the four old fluorescent fixtures removed.
Coincidentally, my wife's elderly parents who live down the street from us are moving back to Georgia. Her Dad is OCD to the max with tools and his figuring out what to pack was a chore. If having one set of sockets was good, he had six!

One of life's rules is never throw away tools. This is why I have four garden rakes, even though I don't remember the last time I used one. This is also why I have five pairs of pliers. They're each a little different, so they each have their applications.
Paint brushes, on the other hand, ...

I, too, used a DIY garage floor kit, and I, too, have the tire track spots, though not as extensive as yours was in the 'before' picture.I tell myself I kind of like that it has a 'lived-in' patina, but if I stop and think of how much time I spent cleaning, acid etching, priming and coating...it looks more like the 'patina of failure.'
Otoh, I do like that most of the garage floor looks better and I can ponder whether I will go to the trouble of repainting while I enjoy and iced tea and listen to my garage system.
Edits: 06/12/25
I did the whole clean, etch, etc. process but that didn't seem to work. The painters first sanded off the old coating as well as roughing up the base for better adhesion. Which left dust everywhere as is still visible in places. Even got in the closets. Put down first coat, took a siesta and then the second coat.
I'm hoping that's the key difference. I didn't feel bad for the $1800 charge as it took three of them all day long!
You might have gotten my UK custom humor regarding tea. On one trip to Scotland, our B&B hosts were perplexed that my wife likes (unsweetened) iced tea. I got a Coke someplace and was given a lone ice cube. When I requested more, they happily complied but gave me a look like "why on earth do you want so much ice?" :)
nt
The mess is hidden in the closets and upstairs. ;)
