New rules are even affecting classical musicians. It's costly to apply, and difficult to receive, taking many months seeking approval. Booking dates are lost and touring revenues greatly reduced.

Maybe NPR meant to write "Immigration Enforcement".
Not sure why they would write "aggressive", unless they have an ideological agenda.

Inmate51 I'm confused. Are you saying the spiriting of United States citizens during weekend nights out of the country and transporting them to a United States contracted detention facility in El Salvador without arrest and/or due process is NOT aggressive?

This is better discussed in Inmate Central.

no *citizens* were deported. Only illegal aliens who have already committed at least one crime.
You opened the door with your comment here in the most populated General Asylum. Why would you want to bury your answer to such a simple question using a subjective website protocol?

We're way off-topic.
"International Musicians", IIRC.

No one is above the law.
Someone thinks he is
is to automate and eliminate waste. Some have rebelled as of late as to taking that kind of action.
There's nothing wrong with genuine, competent attempts at eliminating waste and fraud, especially when those latter terms are publicly defined for the purpose of audits, which they haven't been. And audits are fine when they are done properly by credentialed, experienced, and objectively-qualified people. But what we've had lately have been nothing more than haphazard, chaotic, amateurish, and badly-planned political dog-and pony-shows with no accountability or transparency.

Not even close to reality.
Funniest overt fraud was the *armed* office at the Institute of Peace (!) which unsuccessfully tried to (illegally) destroy 2 TB of records!
Just because he or his cohorts say something in the press about all the wasted dollars they've saved doesn't make it true. Where's the audited proof? Zilch.

Yeah, skeptics hat on, same for what they actually did spend on, where's the proof! the absence of the money isn't proof they spent it or on what they said or effectively, just it's gone. Time for a real audit.
Even if after all the efforts to hide what was happening, they make a few mistakes investigating, it's better than the not caring about waste and fraud or worse, both sides using those losses to justify more next budget like the gov's from municipal to federal have often done under the bureaucratic budget process for decades..
Once DOGE required receipts (or at least a picture), the mysterious expenses stopped occurring. For some reason, some gubment officials don't even begin to follow basic business reporting as required by the IRS.
Imagine that!
Every company I, or my wife, has ever worked for required receipts for any expenses for which we wanted to be reimbursed. When I started working for myself, and had to fill out a Schedule C (Profit or Loss From a Business or Profession), I can guaran-darn-tee you that I better have receipts to back up my claimed expenses.
For the couple of years when I did some computer consulting work for the Federal Government, guess which client didn't 1099 me, as required by law? Yup, the Federal Government. (I reported the income anyway, just to be on the safe side.)

"...some gubment officials don't even begin to follow basic business reporting as required by the IRS"Like insider trading on tariff stop starts, dozens of profitable conflicts of interest for him, his family, and his richest buddies. Roles in government purchased by the wealthiest donor class.
Believe what you will but the current admin is a blatant example of a - plutocratic - - kakistocracy - of - kleptocrats -. It's pretty obvious to everyone on both sides of the aisle.

Abe, you seem to be a smart guy who stays abreast of political goings-on. So, I'm puzzled as to how you managed to miss the shenanigans of the Biden administration.
Believe what you will, but, why did Biden pardon his entire family, for crimes not even alleged nor charged? Surely, they have nothing to hide. And, what about the "about face" on pardoning his son?
I suspect that your criticism of Trump is more about your hatred of him than about anything factual.

Let's see, shenanigans vs destroying democracy.... hmmm
most certainly includes enforcing existing laws.
And shining a bright light on overt fraud with the use of taxpayer funds.
Having both sides do it is one thing (the Washington swamp tradition i suppose), having outsiders snoop into and expose or attempt to stop any of it is another.
I give them points for trying and for the outsider real world approach (not having gov officials in charge of those areas do the investigations).
Time will tell as it does each time around.
Ludwig Von Misses saw the future in the 1940's.
that the clowns there didn't know is deleting files only renames the directory headers. The data sectors are unaffected. DOGE was able to restore the full content that was attempted to hide.
Federal crime passed along to the DOJ.
It hits a bunch of pocketbooks getting rich off the taxpayers. That's gonna cut way back on funding their agenda.
The running of essential gubment functions shouldn't be treated as a massive inefficient welfare project. Let that occur where it doesn't hamper operations.
I plan ahead, don't attend wacko protests and my birth certificate spells out my sex. :)

gay black women since you're getting childish.Passports (which do require positive identification) have been used since 1920. That was true in 1998 when we got ours as is the case today.
I have to laugh out loud to the ignorance demonstrated by some that one has to carry around their birth certificate for international travel. ;)

The *hindrances* only apply to those who don't...
Like I said earlier, Are you a touring musician from another country?
Your OP:
"I plan ahead, don't attend wacko protests and my birth certificate spells out my sex."

Duh!
Had to pay for the UK ETA for our visits. Don't attend wacko protests and use the sex found on my birth certificate.
Every country taxes earnings.
Naturally, you haven't made a single reference to *anything* found in the article. I'm done with your lack of reading retention.
The article has nothing to do with you or your situation unless you're a touring musician.Talk about lack of reading comprehension.

all the best,

The reality is that when you get a work Visa it does not matter what your there to work on. Musician, engineer... no matter what. I feel for the the poor tranny in limbo over this. But it's his inability to get things in order prior to traveling. And guys here piling on, it's just another reason for you to bag on the US.
