coin collectors don't spend the coins, stamp collectors don't mail letters with the collection. museums collect for historical record or for display, not utilization .

of course, investment quality collections are seldom utilized for the intended purpose, but fun is where you find it. collectors can have any personal goal they might enjoy. I have a nice player, but also have too many records to listen to often, some go unplayed for years, so am not that far removed from those with records but no player.

I collected stamps into my early 20's. These days they're only worth face value so I DO use them on the few occasions when I need to snail mail.
